Cel Sci (CVM) is developing a H1N1 vaccine using its L.E.A.P.S. technology along the lines of what is described as "conserved regions" in the above article.

Hey, the information is very useful. Is nice that you emphasize that the H1N1 strain is not as deadly as for example H5N1. I see this event as a path to increase preparedness and response method futhermore ackwoledge that a pandemic can happen again and is a serious matter.

Dear Dr. Rossello, Eventhough it is very difficult to obtain a vaccine as soon as is it needed and that the amount of vaccines available for the entire population is now out of the question, there is hope. First the protocols for who is going to received the first vaccines should be specific: high risk groups and health professionals . Then , using those techniques you mentioned, and making it completely safe for public use , there will be enough to be given to the entire public.
Pandemic threats are just beginning. Keep it up. Dr. Silva

Insightful and useful article. I had no idea what it took to generate vaccines. No wonder it takes so much time... its a very old method!

Nice article Dr.

The US government needs to throw its full weight and resources behind Novavax and their VLP platform. Hope you can send the message along to those decision makers.

Virus like particles (VLPs) sounds very promising. I wonder if they would need to produce different VLPs every season and what the time requirement is.

Very nice feature. How soon will these alternative methods be ready? Perhaps that can be the topic of another article (race against time). Seems to me our policy makers should be focusing on expediting this process with funding.
