As an unemployed scientist and journalist who is also a social progressive, I'd be pleased to continue Chris's important Science Progress article series. I'm even located near the Center for American Progress's Washington, DC HQ (in Arlington, VA.) Please contact me via email. Thanks!

Chris,
Does some policy set by Knight Foundation/MIT require you to stop?
You have so many things going on, it seems reasonable to trim your commitments.
I'm just wondering what you HAVE to do versus what you WANT to do or think it's wise to do.

Congratulations. I got a copy of your book Unscientific American. Great read. I'm going to use it for a course about science writing. ( I thought I might like to join the American Association of Science Journalists but can't because I don't know any members to sponsor me. It was kind of interesting that you wrote about scientists not reaching out and being exclusive but journalists can be the same way. Keep breaking down the walls between us.)

Congratulations Chris! It's great, yet bittersweet news.

I've been reading your articles for a long time and ALWAYS respected your voice and advocacy for science on every issue.

Someday, I hope that someone with your commitment, energy, drive and skills will be able to lead the formation of a pro-science think-tank institute in Washington to represent all the Professional Science Organizations, perhaps through AAAS or NAS.

Personally, I think that this is what's lacking in DC and media. For example, I'd rather watch you speak, regularly, on MTP to debate critical science issues, than watch a Congressperson or even a researcher who fails to properly frame the argument for public consumption.

I'm certain that your 'temporary' move will greatly reward the science community sooner, than later.

Again, Best Wishes at MIT! :)
