Robert - I don't even know where to start with your post. It is literally 100% false - easily corrected by an elementary search through peer reviewed or otherwise reliable literature. You clearly know absolutely nothing of what you write, yet you write - with mind numbing ignorance and denial. You have probably read enough to know some of the evidence that is presented by the clmate science community, yet you reject it.

What are your motivations? No rational person can sincerely think that these scientific findings are some ruse or conspiracy, or based on errors or misunderstandings of physics, as you seem to suggest. The NYT article shows convincingly the science is accepted, even among industry-paid scientists. I know why they took their position - anyone should know. So why are you taking this position?

I will tell you my motivations - I want my children and their children to live in a world no more unstable as the one I live in. The science indicates strongly that unless drastic measures are taken, their world will be unstable in ways we cannot even predict right now.

I increasingly regard people with your views not as a healthy opposing viewpoint, but as very dangerous obstacles to the continuance of our civilization as we know it.

Robert,

Perhaps you missed Chris' 5th paragraph. Here, allow me to reproduce it for you:

Later, the report also debunks a number of then-current “contrarian” theories opposing this conclusion—for instance the idea that solar variability explains our temperature trends—opining that they “do not offer convincing arguments against the conventional model of greenhouse gas emission-induced climate change.”

In other words, as early as 1995, even the energy industry knew that everything you just wrote in your comment is bunk.

Look global warming by CO2 is only about 3% not enough to start ravaging an already bad economy. The main driving force behind climate warming or cooling is the sun. Right now just like clock work we are going into an interglacial period ( cooling) the mean temperature of the oceans has cooled by 3 deg. since 2001. Sun our sun has gone quiet (lack of solar wind) which makes a protective bubble around the earth from cosmic radiation. The is having more effect on us than anything else. Go to www.icecap.com any Government paid program will naturally skew the hard facts and omit pertinent facts and driving forces like when Al Gore lied omitting ten points counter to what he was saying. The U.K. made him take out much of his movie simply because those things were not true!!!

You can pretty much bet that anything that curtails corporate profits will be curtailed and opposed as vigorously as possible. Any move to reduce the use of fossil fuels or otherwise impinge upon the consumerism of the so-called free market will be decried and downplayed by any means, including the use of bogus science, super-opinionated opinion pieces, and anything else that can be brought to bear to keep people unquestioning, complacent, and happily buying and using more of that which generates the most profit. It seems we as a culture and as a nation are finally awakening to the consequences of this buy-buy-and-use philosophy. This is the first time in Earth history that the actions of a single species have resulted in so great a pollution of earth, air and water, and in such unintended but real and demonstrable climate effects. We may have already reached a tipping point -- let's hope we can come back to a better level of equilibrium with our environment.
