The air-oil- water etc, problems we have today are not
recently born. They started in ww2-research was essential
when they solved a problem.
The SYSTEM has developed into a great welfare program.
What would all those "researchers" do without problem?
What would all the talkers do?
New things are put down fast by SYSTEM

In 1984 EPA was shown simple way to turn sewer sludge
into crude oil. People in section of sewer sludge were
Excited. One month later section was closd down and
people given other positions.
They suggested that EPA was owned and operated by the
DOE and that was owned and operated by the DOC.
The DOC runs the country and anything that might affect
their comfort zone--would be trampled on.
You are going to get what you got-- till?

JM
The damage that the eight year tenure the one Bush created may not be fully reversible. This makes one wonder whether any government should have that kind of power over any of sciences?

I twill be a welcome relief for federal scientists, but I would point out that the real issue wasn't ever the scientists themselves. Rather, the problem arose when scientists reported accurately on results that went against the idealogy of the Bush White House. The attempts to censor NASA's James Hansen are perhaps the best known example of this. So, Mr. Holdren and Mr. Obama would do well to remember that it's the political ranks of the federal government where this was most eggregious - and they have all but cleaned house already in that respect.
