Re: Rick Weiss article, "Unsavory Snacks"

Hi Rick:

Ten years ago a small company in Canada called CAZCAN released a road map for food safety. The "Canadian Agrifood and Zoology Limited plan for data tracking livestock through the food chain from farm to fork. It was given away to the US, Australia, Britain and New Zealand. Well understood to be the template for any and all food commodities it was summarily ignored by every political establishment of its day. US Senator, Tom Harkin has had a copy for years. Ditto the CFIA who were in no small part a reprehensible trigger for its inception. Same to said for most all the marketing groups in Canada. The crux of the issue however was how it was to be accomplished. No big deal really as the brains behind the development concluded that, as is the case today there were at least two sources for the fix. IBM open architecture was one the other Mozilla open source. both would efficiently accomplish the daunting task with near perfection. So it came to a question of not technical credibility but of corporate accountability. Hence Big Blue got the nod. If you would care to see a copy of the "Plan" please email me with the word CAZCAN in the subject line, I'll be happy to accommodate your request.

All the best,

Steve Huggins.

Thanks! I just found CAP last night, after googling "Todd Stern" and if this is the quality of the stuff I am going to be getting, I am really excited.

I am a little suspicious of the "High Fructose Corn Syrup," "Let's Tell Our Doctors What Drugs to Prescribe," and "Make All Of Our Foods Out of Plastic So They Will Ship Well" lobbies so I look forward into back reading some of your stuff...

The only way to control this whole thing with ease and simplification is to put the gears to the industry and get HACCP certification in place for all food manufacturers.

It won't protect anyone any better, but it will speed up the recall process.

Now, who is going to pay for that?
