very informative blurb. recently we took our 2 year old son to the doc for a normal checkup to discover that his lead levels read a 3.6. while still considered within the "safe"
range our doctor doesn't like to see anything above a 1.5. being a carpenter and doing lots of remodeling, i have been aware that lead is dangerous, particularly to the health of small children, but it wasn't until i started doing a little research, in light of how it has touched our life, that i've realized how insidious and ubiquitous lead is. the most maddening thing has been figuring out exactly where it is coming from. i had a lead inspector come to our house to do some tests with an xrf gun, dust wipes, and soil samples only to declare our house safe. i did recycle an old oak floor, which i refinished, and it did turn up a small percentage of lead in the old finish, which greatly suprised me as i'd always been under the impression that lead was put into only wall-type paints. also, we own some painted toys from china of which we've mostly ridded ourselves. all this to say that i'm sure the average american has very little idea of how much lead is out there endangering the lives of our children and it angers me to the extent that i'd like to bring the industry and its promoters to their collective knees. my intention is to inform everyone i know with names of companies and legislators that still insist on terrorizing us with their total lack of respect for people and their complete irresponsability in putting profits over the health of their brothers and sisters. keep up the fine work. i want names!
