“Scientific Evidence” Is First Phrase Cut From CDC Director Testimony
The cuts the White House made to CDC Director Julie Gerberding’s congressional testimony began with the paragraph:
Scientific evidence supports the view that the earth’s climate is changing. A broad array of organizations (federal, state, local, multilateral, faith-based, private and nongovernmental) is working to address climate change. Despite this extensive activity, the public health effects of climate change remain largely unaddressed. CDC considers climate change a serious public health concern.
Science Progress has prepared a redacted version of the testimony highlighting the portions removed, which cover extreme weather events, air-pollution-related health effects, water- and food-borne infectious diseases, vector-borne diseases, food scarcity, and the differential burden of climate change health effects on certain populations.
