		<description>As an elementary school science teacher, I&#039;m often appalled at the lack of scientific knowledge--or even curiosity--among my colleagues. Many of them are intimidated by the word &quot;science&quot; and seem to have no shame of their ignorance.  If we want to recapture a passion for science in the classrooms, we must begin with teachers who are passionate about the subject.  There must be more Richard Feynmans and Carl Sagans out there--our task is to provide incentive (not solely monetary, either) for them to teach.  The twin hallmarks of any good scientist (curiosity and clear thinking) can be developed in almost any student--they already have the first.  Somehow, then, we have to find ways to &quot;market&quot; the drive to think well.  The best way I know how to do that is by modeling the behavior for my students, showing them that it can be cool to think straight; and the inverse, that sloppy thinking is not cool.  I can only imagine the product of a school in which every teacher was turned on about the processes and discoveries of science.  We&#039;re not there yet.  Any ideas?  [sorry for the long post!]
